Some Knowledge
The art of hustling, marketing as some would say, is a skill all of its own. Everybody has a perception of how artists' live,(we're broke, starving, or struggling to get by), and if we tell someone that we're artists' it's all a joke. They laugh, joke, and whatever they do, they do not know the art of hustling.
To be an artist you must first be a salesperson- 75% marketing
25% creativity
1) There is no need to have a painting done a day and it sits in the corner for years, or is brought out in special occassions.
A) This is an amatuer.
B) This takes up space.
2) To be a "PRO" one must hustle, or sell the stuff. I know when starting out it is a bit overwhelming, but one must perservere.
A) Venues to try include:
1. Door to door soliciting
2. Gift shop/Local Businesses
3. Art guilds=NETWORKING
4. Art Fairs/Festivals= CLIENTELE
5. Auctions,Charity,Donations
6. Word of Mouth Ad.= cheapest, yet most effective
B) Other Marketing venues :
1. Ebay
2. Website
3. Online galleries
4. Online competitions
5. Forums
These are some of the things that I have tried, and continue to try. Doing this full-time equals 14-18 hour days and you have to enjoy it, otherwise, a real job can always pay bills!
